News in Jefferson Country from Pie N Politics.com Editor Liz Bowen: The Jefferson Declaration Committee was cheering yesterday as a fifth county joined the State of Jefferson project.

“It is a great day for the State of Jefferson,” said spokesman Mark Baird. “The great County of Tehama approved Measure A in the Primary Election on June 3rd. — Tehama citizens approved the Measure with a 55 percent vote showing they favor less government involvement in their lives.”

Tehama now joins the Counties of Modoc, Glenn, Yuba and Siskiyou in their Declaration to withdraw from the State of California.

But two other measures lost – one in Siskiyou and one in Del Norte, which has caused confusion.

Del Norte County Supervisors also placed a Measure A on the ballot for the voters to decide about splitting from California. Then opposition from the SEIU and AFL-CIO Unions spent over $40,000 dollars in a media campaign against the Declaration to withdraw from California. Measure A lost in Del Norte County with only 41 percent of the vote.

Yet, the most difficult to understand is the Jefferson Republic Territory Measure C in Siskiyou County, which also lost and national media picked up on the irony.

“Don’t be confused by the media’s misstatements about Siskiyou County,” said Jefferson Spokesman Baird. “The failure of Measure C and its Territory Special District has absolutely nothing to do with the State of Jefferson. Measure C was an attempt to hijack the support of the State of Jefferson — an attempt which failed, and rightly so, said Baird. The State of Jefferson is in full force. We have just added a fifth county to the growing project.”
